Photo print of of the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, Türkiye.

Description

Step inside the Temple of Apollo in Didyma, present-day Türkiye. The remnants of a 4th-1st century Hellenistic temple dominate the site today, though they were preceded by earlier temples from the 8th and 6th centuries BCE. The stunning ionic, ornamented columns would have stood more than 20 meters tall. Uniquely, a design blueprint survives on one of the temple’s walls. The stone floors bear the subtle etchings of games once played by pilgrims awaiting the oracle of Apollo, the Greek god of light, music, prophecy, and healing. This sacred site, known for advising not only rulers but also builders and bakers, is now enveloped by a charming modern town. Unlike the bustling beaches nearby, the Temple of Apollo offers a tranquil escape – meaning you can walk around the sanctuary in the company of local tortoises rather than tourists.

Photo taken September 2022. Printed on Giclée Hahnemühle Bamboo, a warm-toned paper made from 90% Bamboo fibres and 10% cotton – combining photography with environmental friendliness. It offers good ageing resistance and guarantees high colour density.
